Welcome to The Mid-Life Mama
Welcome to The Mid-Life Mama, my blog that I promised myself I would have up and running before my 58th birthday. Made it by days. Unlike many blogs concerned with mid-life, I will focus on life beyond the age of 30 or 40. I plan on living to the grand old age of 100+ so my definition of mid-life means 50+. There are many of us out there and very little on the world wide web that directly relates to being a 50-something woman. If you are old enough to remember when we actually said "world wide web" you may find this blog relevant covering fitness, fashion, family, food and fun.
50 is the new 30? No....its better. Less to prove to the rest of the world and priorities have been reorganized several times. It's the time when we try to de-clutter and downsize our lives yet we are also the generation that is coping with and enjoying the ever changing relationships with aging parents, adult children and grandchildren.
Physically there are concessions to be made to the passage of time. Some days I think, no, I know that I'm only 25. Other days I swear I'm 80. And what's going on with this body?????? Midlife, RIGHT! Much of my blog will be focused on addressing many of the physical fitness issues that seem to appear overnight.
Going hand in hand are the fashion issues of being middle aged and fashionably dressed. I DO NOT WANT TO WEAR GRANDMA'S BOXY LITTLE JACKETS OR MY DAUGHTER'S HIP HUGGERS! (We wore the original ones anyway) I do not believe we have to dress our age but dress appropriately for the occasion and wear clothing that makes us look our best.
Professionally, I am a speech therapist, I have worked in both the children's and women's clothing industries and as an interior designer and home decor retail store owner. I have worked as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for 25 years and currently I am the owner of multiple fitness centers with my husband.
Personally I am wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, pet owner. Haven't made it to grandma yet. I need an occasional horse fix, love to read, decorate and organize, and dig in the dirt. Long afternoons on a South Carolina beach are ideal. Add my kids and you have perfection.
So please join me as I delve into mid-life, with all the craziness that being fifty-something entails.
